ROTOR , ARMATURE CORE & ARMATURE WINDING, COMMUTATOR.

ROTOR:
              Armature:
·         The purpose of armature is to rotate the armature conductors in the uniform magnetic field.
·         It is further divided into two parts namely ;

             Armature core and Armature winding.

                                                             Fig: Armature core.

            Armature core:
·         It is cylindrical in shape mounted on the shaft as shown in fig.
·         It consists of slots on its periphery & the air ducts to permit the air flow through armature which serves cooling purposes.
·         It is made from high permeability silicon-steel stampings, each stamping being separated from its neighboring one by thin papers or varnish as insulation.
·         Armature core is for to provide a path of low reluctance to the magnetic flux produced by the field winding.

Armature winding:
·         It is but the interconnection of the armature conductors placed in the slots provided on the armature core periphery.
·         Armature windings is to generate e.m.f. in the armature winding in case of generator.
·         To carry the current supplies in case of dc motor

There are two types of winding in armature
1)      Lap winding
2)      Wave winding

COMMUTATOR:
·     The basic nature of e.m.f. induced in the armature conductor is alternating.
·     This needs rectification in case of D.C.  Generator, which is possible by device called commutator.
·      It is cylindrical in shape and is made up of wedge shape segment of hard drawn, high conductivity copper.
·     Commutator is for collect the current from the armature conductor.
·     And to collect internally developed alternately e.m.f. into unidirectional e.m.f.
